Edwin ParagasHealing Dialogue & Action
Edwin Paragas found self-help groups to be crucial to his own liberation as he received a life sentence when he was 16. During his 23 years of incarceration, he experienced the common themes of defeatism, hopelessness, and helplessness. During Edwin’s final 8 years of incarceration, he liberated himself by changing the narrative of his wounds, brokenness, and perception. He credits that change to the few self-help groups that were offered during that time. In pursuit of his own liberation, he became a visionary and a frontline builder. Edwin disrupted a Level 4 prison culture by advocating for self-help services within the environment of the oppressed. Within the culture of oppression, he stood tall and guided his brothers to the wonders of self-empowerment through self-help. Edwin now serves as Program Coordinator at Healing Dialogue and Action. |
