Allen is an example of the transformative power of a community focused on self-improvement and Higher Education. After twenty-eight years of incarceration Allen’s Life Without the Possibility of Parole sentence was commuted by California Governor Gavin Newsom in 2019. Allen is now pursuing a master’s degree in Communication Studies at Cal State Los Angeles. He is a member of the Human Rights Watch Leadership Council, a member of Project Rebound at Cal State Los Angeles, and program consultant with Parole Justice Works. Allen believes that people have the capacity to co-construct a positive pro-social reality through mindful communication, kindness, compassion, empathy, and grace. |
